Dogs compete in one of two heats

Dogs can compete in the GROMS heat where they are allowed as many helpers in the water with them as possible.

Dogs in the SHREDDER heat are judged on how comfortable they are on the board

In the SHREDDER heat dogs are allowed only two helpers and are judged on the length of their ride, size of waves, and how comfortable they look on the board.

There are also different heats for different sized dogs, from small to extra-large
