David Cameron tries his hand at brick-laying

Local elections are taking place next week, which means all the main parties have been out on the campaign trail.

Few politicians can resist a photo opportunity, especially when it is intended to show them behaving a bit like an ordinary voter.

It seems David Cameron is no exception.

The prime minister was quick to don a fluorescent jacket this morning during a visit to a building site in Lancashire.

He helped lay some bricks and do a bit of trowel-work in Buckshaw Village in Chorley.

You can judge for yourself whether you think Mr Cameron has the skills to go into the building trade were he ever to give up politics.

The prime minister used the occasion to promote the government's scheme for helping first-time buyers.

Lancashire county council is a key target for the Conservatives in the local elections on Thursday 2 May.
