Quiet birthday weekend for Obama

US President Barack Obama is spending a quiet 51st birthday weekend away from re-election campaigning.

He was playing a round of golf at Andrews Air Force Base before heading to Camp David, the private presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains.

Mr Obama received some early birthday wishes during a campaign rally in Florida on Thursday, where supporters sang Happy Birthday to him.

He joked that his birthday wishes "probably would have to do with electoral votes. Winning Florida wouldn't be a bad birthday present."

The President returns to campaigning next week with fundraisers in Connecticut and rallies in Colorado.
