Chimpanzees under attack exaggerate their screams in order to get help from higher ranking group members, research has found. The study discovered that the primates produce high-pitched and prolonged screams when they are the victims of severe aggression such as beating or chasing.
Primate: an order of mammals that includes humans, apes (which are the closest living relatives to humans), monkeys, and some less familiar mammals, such as tarsiers, lorises, and lemurs. Humans and other primates share a common evolutionary descent.
