'Telepathy' breakthrough hailed

By working with people undergoing brain surgery, scientists say they have moved towards hearing imagined speech using electronic telepathy

A first step has been taken towards hearing imagined speech using a form of electronic telepathy, it has been claimed.

Scientists believe in future it may be possible to "decode" the thoughts of brain-damaged patients who cannot speak.

In a study described by one British expert as "remarkable", US researchers were able to reconstruct heard words from brain wave patterns. A computer programme was used to predict what spoken words volunteers had listened to by analysing their brain activity.

Like I say mediums have been doing this for years, a problem is that some people who stick wires into the head are further back than they realize.

take a tape recorder to a session of chanelling, turn it on and when the channeler begins to relay the information to you it will or may be recorded onto the tape as the channel recieves it from the spirit,ET, instantlly. simple realy, I have done this several times. With several people pressent, sometimes with only two people pressent.

The human brain is a super computer with the ability to instantaneously process vast amounts of information. Technology allows for an extensive amount of electrical activity data to be transmitted from neurons in the brain to computers for analysis. In a current system, a bundle consisting of one hundred gold wires connects to a pedestal which extends through the scalp. The pedestal is connected by an external cable to a set of computers in which the data can be stored for off-line analysis or analyzed in real-time. Signal processing software algorithms analyze the electrical activity of neurons and translate it into control signals (thoughts of memory) for use in various computer-based applications. Research on BCIs began in the 1970s.

I could be wrong, sounds like its a reversed version of a thing called Braingate.

Andy,

Its hardly a discussion, and I made no such assumptions on your intellect.

"just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching you"

On the contrary,  I'm well aware of those always watching - especially those spoiling for a fight .......eh!

" off topic so we'll just leave it at "

 I agree.

Be big be bold & and enjoy life.

We could have this discussion all night, and it's off topic, so we'll just leave it at :-
I think your a pompous a$$, and you think I'm an unintelligent, paranoid, conspiracy theorist OK?
And just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching you. Oooooh spooky

Andy,

I'm sorry you feel threatened by a little more insight  than this artical offers, or that you agree with the conspiracy theorists fears. If to you these opinions are not "whacko" and you equally subscribe to them, then you are correct, its not my place to criticise that, its your choice. I will however share my opinion, like you, that those views, to me, should not hijack an otherwise fantastic new development. If you disagree with that then again that is your choice. Although that will have little impact on others assuming those that hold such views are indeed whacko's.

You are correct it doesn't say in this article, however as the article itself is somewhat vague iv found it is always prudent to delve a little deeper before posting, especially when posting somewhat unfounded and paranoid comments.

And I reiterate I did say "some"

I do however concur you are not a good fellow - but please don't let that stop you learning.

This isn't about studying for a degree. It's an article on MSN, which people read and state an opinion about. I don't give a sh1t if your ''research'' is straight out of the British Medical Journal. It's about showing some respect for peoples opinions, whether they are well informed or not. Calling people wacko's and nut jobs is showing your own ignorance. Have you met any of these people? Work with them? Best mates? NO. You make assumptions based on your own prejudices.
In MY opinion, you just like to elaborate, on what was a 3 paragraph article to try and prove your own superiority. Well in MY opinion it just makes you look a tw@t. And It DOESN'T say anything in the article about ''directly onto the brain. i.e. open skull. And I'm not a ''good fellow''

Andy,

With the utmost respect - be a good fellow, go do your research, then get back to me when you've found what I posted to be correct.

And I did say some!

What a psuedo intellectual, know all Knob-head you are. Where in the article does it say that this procedure is performed ''directly onto the brain, i.e. open skull''??
Some of these items are here to educate, and give insight to the less well informed than yourself. How dare you denigrate their lack of knowledge on the subject with you're, self assumed superiority complex. Nut jobs and wacko's indeed.

Jeez, some of you on here worry me. This is not telepathy in the sense some of you nut jobs assume, that's an unfortunate choice of words in this article.

This technology is only effective in compliant patients with electrodes placed directly onto the brain, i.e. open skull,  something some of you already clearly have.

It cannot read minds in the pseudo non existent medium sense, it merely translates electrical signals in to associated words, and even that is nowhere near exact at this stage.

Its application for locked in patients in comas or speech impairment from strokes is obvious and should not be marred by you whacko's and your non existent conspiracies.

Looking at some of the serious comments on this story makes me think they haven't read the part where this is based on brain damaged patients?! Relax. Don't panic. Sit down. Your thoughts/secrets are more then likely safe :)

*Surely Kenneth Foster got 31 dislikes on his comment because of his aka name, not his actual comment??! :/ Gutted.

I think I've figured that out - it seems to be if you use very good punctuation, MSN assumes it must be spam. Maybe they assume none of us can use these funny looking symbols properly?

I just sit there and fiddle with bits of it until it accepts it.

Be afraid, be very afraid....

Oh and another conspiracy theory. Why does the image above of the brain scan remind me of a ready meal? *GULP*

For some reason my original post was blocked because it appeared to be spam or contain a hyperlink - it said!? Not sure why- more mind controlling? (There was a big chunk of my post I had to delete before it allowed it to be accepted.)

I've noticed that the level of paranoia on MSN is very high.

This is just one more step towards eventually being able to project all of our thoughts onto a screen, so those of us with secrets need to sort them out.
