A worker was fired after being spotted at a school reunion on Facebook when he should have been at work
A local government worker in the Philippines has been sacked after being spotted on Facebook attending a school reunion when he should have been at work.
Maynardo Valdez was accused of gross misconduct and dishonesty.
Philippine Information Agency chief Jose Fabia said that Mr Valdez closed his office for four days without permission and did not respond to calls and texts from his superiors.
Mr Fabia said officials tried contacting Mr Valdez through his Facebook account and instead saw pictures of him at the reunion on Boracay Island.
He alleged Mr Valdez neglected his other duties like producing daily reports.
Mr Valdez said he will appeal against the decision.
