The Football Association has named the Italian Fabio Capello as the new head coach of the England team and he will start the job in January.

Capello, who has signed a four-and-a-half year deal, will fly into England to give a press conference in London at 1pm on Monday.

The appointment comes just three weeks after Steve McClaren was sacked from the post following England's failure to reach the Euro 2008 finals.

Capello, who has had great success managing at club level with Roma, AC Milan and Real Madrid, will bring an all-Italian backroom staff with him but he is considering how to include some form of English presence in the set up.
