High-speed Eurostar defies strikers (Image © pa.press.net)

The first train to leave the UK from Channel Tunnel train company Eurostar's new international terminal defied strikers in Paris to reach the French capital on time.

Having switched headquarters overnight from Waterloo Station to St Pancras Station in London, the train arrived at Gare du Nord Station in Paris on schedule at just before 2.15pm French time.
