In a blistering verbal attack, senior members of the military have accused Gordon Brown of treating Britain’s armed forces “with contempt” - prompting one civilian to suggest the warmongers of Whitehall should try a spell on the front line.
A former defence chief has renewed his call for the "huge imbalance" between military funding and fighting commitments to be addressed. Admiral Lord Boyce said Prime Minister Gordon Brown should recognise that the armed forces are over-committed and that he should take steps to ensure they are properly resourced.
